Edward John Markey is a Senator from Massachusetts. Born in Malden, MA, in 1946, he attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1964. He earned his B.A. from Boston College in 1968 and his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1972. He has been a private practice lawyer and served in the United States Army Reserve from 1968-1973. He was a member of the Massachusetts state house of representatives from 1973-1976 and elected to the 94th Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of United States Representative Torbert H. Macdonald; he was reelected to the nineteen succeeding Congresses. In 2013, he was and elected to the U.S. Senate in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of John F. Kerry, and subsequenly reelected in 2014.
